Q: I don't need glasses or contact lenses. I have "great" vision. Do I still have to get my eyes examined?
A: Yes. A comprehensive eye examination can detect potential eye diseases that you may not even know that you have. Eye diseases that often go undetected but can cause permanent vision loss are glaucoma and diabetic and hypertensive retinopathy.
Q: Does using the computers, tablets and/or smart phones a lot make my vision worse?
A: There is no good evidence that staring at a computer will cause permanent eye damage. However, computers can cause many uncomfortable eye-related symptoms such as eyestrain, dry eyes, headache, fatigue, difficulty focusing and blurred vision. Recent studies have also linked excessive computer/tablet/smart phone use with myopia (nearsighted) progression due to excessive accommodative (near focusing) demand. Finally, the high- energy visible blue light emitted from these devices may be associated with retina-macula damage and sleep cycle disruption.
