If I was exposed to COVID-19 after getting vaccinated, then what?

This varies by state. As of now, CDC does exclude quarantine for those who had COVID-19 within the last three months and do not have symptoms. Some states are changing these rules in their individual states, so be sure to check.

If you are exposed BETWEEN doses, or before the two-week period expires after your second dose, you are still vulnerable to the disease. It typically takes a few weeks for the body to build immunity after vaccination. That means it is possible a person could be infected with the virus that causes COVID-19 just before or just after vaccination and get sick. This is because the vaccine has not had enough time to provide protection. If you have COVID-19 virus symptoms after getting the vaccine or at any time, you should contact your health care provider and consider getting tested for COVID-19.
